Givoo

Terms and conditions.

Last updated

These are the terms on which Givoo Ltd provides the Givoo platform. Each clause is written twice: the binding legal wording first, then a plain-English explanation of what it means. If the two ever seem to differ, the legal wording is the one that applies.

1. Introduction and core purpose

These Terms and Conditions govern your use of the Givoo platform and all associated services. By accessing or using Givoo, you enter into a legally binding contract with Givoo Ltd (company number 17354319, registered at 124 City Road, London EC1V 2NX). If you do not agree to these terms, you must immediately cease using the platform. Givoo operates strictly as an interactive digital platform providing curated gift recommendations and third-party commercial links.

What we actually mean: Welcome to Givoo. By using our site, you are agreeing to these rules. We have built this platform to make gifting less stressful, and these terms keep the lights on and keep things running smoothly.

2. Who can use Givoo

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or to contribute a profile. By using Givoo you confirm that you are. Givoo Ltd may suspend or close any account it reasonably believes belongs to someone under 18.

What we actually mean: Givoo is for adults. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to use it on your behalf.

3. The service value exchange

Givoo does not charge users a monetary fee to register or use the recommendation engine during the initial launch phase. In lieu of financial payment, you agree to provide accurate personal data, including your age range, gender, personality type, life stage, other profile descriptors and specific interests, alongside at least one description of an item you have recently purchased, loved, or desired. This exchange constitutes the full value exchange for platform access.

What we actually mean: Givoo is completely free to use. To make this work, we use a simple trade. You help the community by telling us a bit about yourself and sharing at least one gift idea you genuinely love or want. In return, you get access to our gift library so you can find great ideas for everyone else.

4. Cross-border service and regional variations

Givoo is optimised specifically as a United Kingdom focused gift recommendation engine based on UK demographic and cultural contexts. While the platform is accessible globally, Givoo makes no representations or warranties that any recommended product is available, legally compliant, priced accurately, or eligible for practical shipping outside the United Kingdom. International users access the platform at their own risk and acknowledge that recommendations are tailored to UK market profiles.

What we actually mean: We are a UK-born platform, and our initial gift list is built around things available in the UK. While we welcome users from all over the world to search for gift inspiration, if you are browsing from the US or elsewhere, please note that our recommendations will feel very British at first, and international product availability or shipping rates are completely out of our hands.

5. Third-party merchants and affiliate disclosure

Givoo operates primarily via affiliate revenue streams. The platform contains outbound hyperlinks to third-party partner merchants. Givoo does not retail, stock, pack, or ship any physical goods. Any transaction, purchase, or interaction you engage in via an outbound link is exclusively between you and that third-party merchant. Givoo disclaims all liability for product availability, incorrect pricing, delivery failures, defective items, or any damages arising from third-party transactions. Affiliate tracking on outbound links is applied only where you have consented to it under our Privacy Policy; where you have not, links are provided to the merchant unmodified.

What we actually mean: We do not sell or ship anything ourselves. When you click a link and buy a gift, you are buying it directly from our partner brands, and if you have said yes to affiliate tracking on our cookie banner, we may earn a small commission from that sale. If your package is not what you expected, delayed, damaged, or priced incorrectly, you will need to chat with the brand you bought it from directly.

6. Your account and its security

You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity that takes place under your account. You must tell us promptly at privacy@givoo.co.uk if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission. You may close your account at any time by contacting us, and we will delete it in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Givoo Ltd may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms.

What we actually mean: Look after your password, and let us know if something looks wrong. If you want to leave, email us and we will delete your account. If someone breaks these rules, we can close their account.

7. Intellectual property and data rights

Users of Givoo retain no ownership, intellectual property rights, or claims to compensation regarding any gift ideas, descriptions, or interest data submitted to the platform. By inputting content, you grant Givoo Ltd a perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide licence to process, analyse, and utilise such material for platform optimisation. Contributions are included in anonymised, aggregated insights shared outside Givoo only where you have consented to that under our Privacy Policy. Givoo Ltd retains exclusive ownership over its proprietary systems, technical frameworks, operational processes, and architectural configurations.

What we actually mean: When you tell us what you love, those ideas go into the collective Givoo brain to help other users. We mix all these suggestions together without names attached to give better ideas and to help you understand what certain types of people actually want. If you have opted in, those anonymous, mixed-together insights may also be shared with partners. Your personal details stay with us, and we will never sell your contact information.

8. Recipient information you provide

When you enter attributes, interests or demographics about another person in order to find them a gift, you warrant that you have the necessary relationship, right or authorisation to provide that information to Givoo Ltd. Responsibility for the accuracy of, and permission for, information about third parties rests solely with you.

What we actually mean: When you describe your mum or your mate to find them a gift, that is on you: make sure it is fair and that they would not mind.

9. Platform misuse and interest pollution

You are strictly prohibited from using automated tools, scripts, scrapers, or bots to harvest data, profiles, or product taxonomies from Givoo. Furthermore, you agree not to submit fraudulent, malicious, or intentionally inaccurate information on your account profile or during any interaction with the platform. Violations of this section will result in immediate termination of platform access.

What we actually mean: We are building an anti-AI, human-centric community. Please do not feed our site fake information or use bots to scrape our human-curated ideas. Honesty and integrity are at the core of who we are, and in order to keep providing the best gift ideas, ones that your friends and family will genuinely love, we need your cooperation and honesty too.

10. Limitation of liability

Givoo is provided on an "as-is" and "as-available" basis. Givoo gives no guarantees that the recommendation engine will identify a gift that is satisfactory to the user or recipient. Givoo Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including emotional distress, relationship strain, or financial loss resulting from unsuccessful gift choices, platform downtime, or inaccurate product recommendations. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded under the law of England and Wales.

What we actually mean: Givoo is a tool to give you high-confidence inspiration, but we are still human. If your cousin does not absolutely love the road-cycling vest we recommended, or if the item goes out of stock right before Christmas, we cannot be held responsible for the disappointment or frustration you may feel. All we can suggest is to give us a second chance, and see if a different search and set of recommendations will be more successful.

11. Changes to these terms

Givoo Ltd may amend these terms from time to time. The current version is always published at this address with the date it took effect. Where a change is material, we will notify registered users by email before it takes effect. Continued use of the platform after that date constitutes acceptance of the amended terms.

What we actually mean: If we change these rules in a way that matters, we will tell you first.

12. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms and Conditions, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or their subject matter, shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Both Givoo Ltd and the user irrevocably agree that the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim.

What we actually mean: Givoo is based in the UK. If we ever end up in a legal disagreement that requires a judge, it will be handled under the laws of England and Wales, using their court system.
